Roxy is the owner & lead stylist behind Coastal Curl — and when she’s not cutting hair, she is spending most of her time digging through old vinyls and scoping out Oakland’s newest food pop-up.

Roxy first developed the concept of Coastal Curl in 2018 because she was frustrated with how challenging and time-consuming it was to style her big, curly hair. She struggled finding a solution for years; DIY hair projects became too time-consuming for her busy corporate working schedule, and she often left salons feeling disregarded and dissatisfied. In a grand pivot just three years after completing her B.A. from Stanford University, Roxy took matters into her own hands and enrolled in the Cosmetology program at Cinta Aveda Institute in pursuit of creating a safe space for the frizz-prone, like herself.

Like many other folks who have similar “aha!” moments, it took many years before she discovered how to embrace her wild curls as part of her identity. In so many ways, understanding her natural texture and improving her self-image helped her come to a greater place of inner peace. Now she’s passionate about helping others on their journeys to hair and heart harmony.
